Pass Plus

Pass Plus is a training scheme devised by the Driving Standards Agency to improve the skills and increase the driving knowledge of newly qualified drivers in areas where they may have limited experience.

The scheme has the support of leading UK insurance companies
and consequently offers the additional benefit of significantly reducing car insurance premiums for drivers who have successfully completed the Pass Plus course.

Pass Plus Popularity

Pass Plus is particularly popular with the parents of newly qualified teenage drivers who may have concerns regarding driver safety. Pass Plus pupils who use Steering Clear will become safer and more positive in their driving. No Pass Plus pupil has failed the course with Steering Clear.
Pass Plus pupils are required to complete at least 6 hours of driving. The course is modular and does not require an examination at the end. Successful candidates will be approved by Steering Clear and passed by the Driving Standards Agency.

The course covers the following subjects:

  • Introduction Town Driving
  • Rural Roads and Out of Town Driving
  • All Weather Driving
  • Night Driving
  • Dual Carriageway Driving
  • Motorway Driving

On successful completion of the course, pupils will receive a certificate from the Driving Standards Agency. This can then be presented to participating insurance companies (lists are provided) to claim the insurance discount.

The cost of the 6 hour course with Steering Clear is £130. If additional lessons are required then these will be charged at £22 per hour.
